St. John's was established by Rev. George E. Lloyd in 1903. In
fact, when the grateful British colonists wanted to commend his
leadership by naming the new town after him, he insisted the name be
Lloydminster, to acknowledge that he had come to found
a "mother church" (or minster), not a secular town.
The first services were held in the Lloyd home, until the log church was
constructed in the spring of 1904.
