Aubrey Fenn Miller was born in Bracebridge, Ontario in 1888. He moved west with his parents as a young boy and the family settled on a homestead about four miles from Kitscoty.
As a young man Aubrey left the farm and apprenticed with his uncle, John Dale, in Dale's hardware in Kitscoty. In 1914 Aubrey bought his own hardware store (Miller Hardware) in Lloydminster. In the same year he married Winnifred Jean Gilmour of Kitscoty. They had four children Beatice, Audrey, Joe and Alan.
Aubrey purchased an Aladdin Home from a Mr. Mayberry. This home was located on the Meridian in Lloydminster. This home was one of the first in the community to have modern conveniences such as running water. The home was moved in the 1970's to a farm in the Paradise Hill Region where it remains to this day. History of this is available from the Lloydminster Times under the heading "Landmark on the Move."
Aubrey was active in the Lloydminster community serving on the Board of Trade. He was a member of the Odd Fellows and was a choir member at the United Church. Curling was another of his favourite activities that he shared with his wife.
Due to
health reasons Aubrey and Winnifred sold the Miller Hardware in 1945 and moved
west again and resettled for their retirement years in Vancouver and finally
Mission, BC. Aubrey passed away July 31st. 1949 at the age of 61.
Winifred passed away in August 23rd 1988.
