BERNARD PAYNE

Bernard and Mona Payne reside on the original homestead of Robert (Bob) and Jesse Payne who moved there in1903. When they took over from Bernard's parents, George and Grace in1971, they carried on a mixed farming operation with Angus cattle.

In 1973 one hundred Angus cows were sold, to be replaced by the purchase often Limousin cows. The operation became known as Greenwood Limousin.

Bernard and Mona, married in1956, have raised six sons with three still farming.

They have eight grandsons and two granddaughters. Greenwood Limousin will one day be farmed by the fifth generation of Paynes.

As a family unit the Paynes have a herd of 400 and have shown their cattle across the Prairie Provinces, winning many awards. Greenwood Limousin cattle have been sold across Canada and the United States, as well as around the world in Mexico, Brazil, China, Scotland, and England.

As an additional branch of their farming operation the Paynes introduced the first Red Waddle Hogs to this area.
