WENDY (SWIFT) MURRAY

Wendy Murray; the daughter of Earl and Gwen Swift, was born and raised in Lloydminster.  She attended school here, graduating with Honors from Lloydminster Comprehensive High School in 1980.  She then went on to attend college in Midland, Texas, followed by university at San Diego, California.

Wendy's rapid climb in the game of golf was due largely to her keen desire to play and play well.  She spent hours a day at the local club, not only playing the course, but spending time on the driving range and putting green.  If she had trouble with a particular kind of shot, she would practice that shot over and over again until the difficulty was corrected.

Even in her first full year of golfing, she was declared winner of the "Greatest Reduction in Handicap" for a Junior Lady Golfer in Canada in 1976 (reduction from Handicap of 36 to 13 in one year).
