J. S. (BUD) MILLER

Bud was born and raised in Kitscoty, Alberta where he attended school and married his wife Margaret.  They have five children, four boys, one girl and twelve grandchildren.  Bud farmed and raised his family in the Kitscoty area where the whole family was involved with school and sporting activities in the community.  Bud joined the airforce and then attended the University of Saskatchewan, graduating with a degree in Agriculture in 1949.  Bud is still currently involved in the family farm.

In 1971, Bud was elected to the Alberta Legislature and served until 1986.  During this period he represented the Lloydminster Constituency.  He was named to the cabinet as Associate Minister of Public Lands and Wildlife for the period of 1979 to I 982.  As well he served on many committees of the legislature including AOSTRA (Alberta Oil Sands Technical Research Authority) and Chairman of the Legislature Heavy on Committee.

After leaving the legislature he continued to serve on AOSTRA until he was selected to serve as Chairman of the Bi-Provincial Upgrader from 1988 to 1995.  This board was comprised of representatives of Federal government and Saskatchewan and Alberta Provincial governments as well as Husky Oil.

Bud is currently a member of Kitscoty town council, where he is on the library committee and is a community liaison with the local R.C.M.P.

Bud has been Chairman of the Lloydminster Region Community Futures Development Corporation for the past ten years.  He has enjoyed helping many individuals start and expand small businesses in our region. Through Community Future, Bud is a member of the Border City Rodeo Association for the Canadian Cowboys Association finals, and a member of the Community Development
Restructuring committee.

A high point for Bud was the naming of a 90-acre urban park in Lloydminster - the Bud Miller All Seasons Park.
