CHRISTINE MICHELS

For award-winning author Christine Michels there is nothing more fascinating than the endless potential presented by a star-studded sky:  There is little more enthralling than a gripping mystery or suspenseful intrigue; and nothing more heartwarming than the triumphant conclusion to a turbulent fairy-tail romance. With those compelling interests, what career could possibly be more suitable than that of a writer of romantic fiction?

Christine began traveling among the stars - in her imagination - before she was old enough to write the stories she created.  At the age of eleven, after having been a Nancy Drew mystery fan for some time, she found an outlet for her creative inclination when she plotted a daring diamond heist - in narrative only, of course. Although this novel was never finished, Christine had begun to find her niche.  She continued to fill notebooks with short stories and poetic ramblings for years.  This pastime honed her talents and resulted in her being granted the English Achievement Award at the E. S. Laird School in Lloydminster in Grade 9.

Sharry Christine Michels (maiden name: Catudal) was born in Calgary, Alberta, but moved to Lloydminster with her parents when she was five, prior to starting the first grade.  She completed her schooling in Lloydminster and went on to work in the city for a number of years in positions varying from Production Accountant in the oil industry, to bookkeeper to software consultant! However, she always enjoyed writing and in her mid-twenties began writing more seriously.  Eventually, she teamed up with a friend, Bernice Carstensen, who was also living in Lloydminster at the time and they completed their first novel, To Share a Sunset, which was written under the pseudonym Sharice Kendyl.  Leisure Books in New York published the novel, in October of 1990.

After the completion of that first novel, their partnership dissolved.  After a two year hiatus to focus on her writing, her first solo novel Ascent to the Stars (another futuristic romance), written under her own name Christine Michels, was published by Leisure Books in February of 1994.  Her third novel, but first in the contemporary suspense genre, Danger's Kiss, was released in December 1994 and garnered Christine her second literary award when the novel was named "Best Single Title Contemporary" By Romance Writers of America's Region 4 in their "Heart of Romance" competition.

June 1998 will see the release of Christine's first Historical Romance from Leisure Books under their Legendary Lovers imprint.  Entitled Beyond Betrayal, the novel, set in Montana in 1867, will allow readers to revisit the classic tale of Samson and Delilah in an Old West setting.

Christine still lives in Lloydminster area with her husband of 22 years, Don Michels, and her teen-age son Brandon.
