DEBRA KUZYK

Debra Kuzyk was born in Cutknife, Saskatchewan in 1958 and later moved to Lloydminster with her family.  In 1960 she graduated from the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, with honors in a Bachelor of Education degree.

Her interest in ceramics and art design led her to travel and study in other countries and various institutions such as Otis Art Institute, Los Angeles; Alberta College of Art, Calgary; Banff Centre of Fine Arts, Banff; and Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, Halifax, where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ceramics and printmaking.

Debra settled in Stephenville on the west coast of Newfoundland where in their spacious studio she and a collaborating artist created covered jars, teapots, casseroles, exotic planters, fountains, tableware, as welt as other types of artistic production. The work produced is the result of years of experimentation and personal exploration. The Newfoundland environment has strongly influenced this distinctive pottery. This is evident in the animal, plant and fish motifs seen son many of the pieces, as well as in the handling of color and form.

Debra's work has been featured in five solo exhibitions and numerous. group exhibitions across Canada and internationally.  Collections that feature her pieces include the city of Calgary and Lloyd Hall Permanent Collection, Banff Centre.  Currently Debra is an instructor at the College of the North Atlantic in Stephenville, Newfoundland.
