PHILIP GORDON (SKIP) KRAKE
When Skip Krake and family arrived in Lloydminster 1976, Skip had just
retired from professional sport due to an injury.
Skip immediately became active in community affairs.
He served on the minor hockey executive, did some coaching, and
fundraising. Skip volunteered with the Winter Games and in other community
groups. As a Kinsman, he participated in numerous Kinsmen projects
including the Sportsman's Dinner.
Philip Gordon (Skip) Krake was born at Rabbit Lake, Sask.
He was raised in North Battleford, receiving his schooling there.
He played minor hockey in North
Battleford, and in 1958-60 played with the Beaver Bruins, then on to the
Estevan Bruins. Skip turned Pro in 1964 with the Boston Bruins Central
League, where he played with the Minneapolis Bruins and the Oklahoma City
Blazers.
In 1967 Skip was called up to the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey
League. From, 1967 until 1972 he played with Boston, the Los Angeles
Kings, and the Buffalo Sabres. In
1972 Skip went with the Cleveland Crusaders of the World Hockey Association.
Krake's final team was the Edmonton Oilers in 1975-76.
Krake was part owner of a Lloydminster Sporting Goods business upon moving to
Lloydminster. In 1989 he became Edmonton Oiler Corporation Manager of
Retail Outlets. Skip has been with Fountain Tire since 1995, and is
presently Assistant manager of the local store.
Skip married Dianne, a registered nurse in 1965.
Their family consists of two children, son Paul and wife Gabrielle, and
their two sons, and daughter Sarah, and husband Trevor Nysetvold.
