LOIS KOSTERIVA
Born in Lashburn and raised in Marsden, Lois Kosteriva has lived in
Lloydminster for 45 years. As a young person, following the completion of
a business course, she worked for many years for the law offices of V.U. Miner
and Joe McLean.
Lois founded Pothole Pottery in 1973 strictly as a labour of love. From
the first time she saw a women moulding and shaping clay into a beautiful object
d'art she was entranced. She learned the basics from the very capable
crafts-people from the University of Saskatchewan's Extension Department
and from Lakeland College in Vermilion, Alberta. She then moved to study
more advanced techniques. Eventually with the support of her family, Lois
was able to create a beautiful studio in her home with a firing kiln in the
backyard.
This mother, grandmother and great grandmother has attempted to and succeeded in
putting something back into this craft that she loves so much by helping
newcomers of all ages to learn the wheel-thrower's skills.
