Jim Hohne attended Queen Elizabeth School, E.S. Laird Junior
High School, and Lloydminster High School. Jim Hohne started bowling when he was
9 years old at Lloyd Bowl on 48 Street downtown Lloydminster. He first went to a
National event when he was 11 years old. The Lloydminster team went by train to
Toronto where they placed second of 116 others from all over Canada. Throughout
his youth career, he participated in many tournaments and leagues. The
"Pepsi", now "Coke Challenge" was one very important
tournament. He worked part time as a pinsetter after school and weekends at
Lloyd Bowl.
Once Jim was of age to bowl in adult leagues, he bowled
regularly. He was 5-Pin Association president for several different seasons,
always involved. He became a master instructor and coach once his children got
involved, and then went on to receive his Level II coach's certificate. In 1986
he became manager of the new "Border Bowl". For seven years he
instructed, coached and encouraged people in their sport.
He has participated in all levels of league and tournament
bowling. In 1991 Hohne participated in the TSN Tournament, won at the house
level and advanced to Provincials where he averaged 283. He then advanced to the
National Level to compete on TV, where he won $2,300.00. In 1993 he again
advanced to the TSN Roll-off. This same year, his oldest daughter Deanna
advanced to TSN in the Youth Division. They both had their turn on TV.
Although not at the "Border Bowl" anymore, you can
still find Jim and his family active in the sport of bowling. His four children
have all done well, all advancing to a National Level in various divisions.
