MOSSIE HANCOCK

Born at Mervin, Mossie Hancock moved to Lloydminster as a youth and took most of her schooling here.  She has a long association with the Saskatchewan Music Festival Association (SMFA) as performer teacher and adjudicator.  She has adjudicated at 50 Saskatchewan centres and was the first person to adjudicate in all ten provinces.  It was always a pleasure to have her adjudicate at a number of festivals here in Lloydminster.
She performed frequently with her late husband, Gordon Hancock, Executive Director of the SMFA for eighteen years. They formed a piano duo.  Their performances included Mozart's Concerto in E-flat with the Regina Symphony Orchestra in 1958 and many public and CBC recitals.  They were co-hosts from 1955 - 1974 for the music appreciation program "AsYou Like It" and "The Music of Man" on CKCK radio, Regina.
Mossie Hancock is also well known as a writer.  She wrote for the Canada Music Book and Musicanada, as well as broadcasting extensively for the CBC.  Her book, Music for One... Music for All: The Story of the Saskatchewan Music Festival Association 19O8-1988, was written in 1988 and was commissioned to celebrate the Associaton's 80th Anniversary.
Mossie has served on the Advisory Board of the Touring Office of Canada Council, the Saskatchewan Arts Board and the Saskatchewan Writers Guild. In 1988 she was made an Honorary Life Member of both the Federation of Canadian Music Festivals and the SMFA.
Concerning music in Lloydminster, she recalls the following: Lloydminster has made a strong contribution to music in the province from its earliest day.  In 1910 a Lloydminster Church Choir journeyed to the Provincial Festival in Saskatoon, and won the Class a Choral Trophy.  Mossie Hancock makes her home in Regina, Saskatchewan.
