DEAN E. R. GULKA
Dean Gulka moved to Lloydminster with his family in 1975. He
attended school at Barr Colony, Martin Browne, Queen Elizabeth, E. S. Laird
Junior High and Lloydminster Comprehensive High School, graduating in 1987.
Dean
attended the University of Saskatchewan, and in 1993 attained an advanced degree
in Sociology. He then moved to Regina, graduating from the Saskatchewan Police
College in 1997.
Under the supervision and instruction of Sensor Cameron Steuart (Instructor),
Dean began his training in the Art of Karate in September of 1984, and two years
later began Junior Karate Class Karate-do. In 1987 he began instructing in
Vermilion Satellite Do-Jo (Karate School). In 1988 Dean attained Sho-Dan Black
Belt Standing (First-degree black belt), and since then he has been an
instructor in the art of Karate at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon.
In 1989 Dean received the Legislative Member of Alberta Award in recognition as
an instructor in the art of Karate. Dean has competed yearly on a provincial
basis, as well as internationally. Most recently he placed first in Team Kata
(form), attained third placement in Individual Kata (form) and third in sparring
at an International Competition Tournament in the State of California.
At present Dean is employed in Saskatoon. He enjoys most outdoor sports, and
gardening with his wife Marianne.
