JOHN ALLAN CAMERON
John Allan Cameron, also known as "the godfather of Celtic
music in Canada", has a connection to the Border City and Saskatchewan
through his family as well as his music. He is the nephew of Jim and Sylvia
Broley of Marshall, Saskatchewan.
As a travelling musician and with his involvement as co-host of the kinsmen
Club's Telemiracle Telethon for the past 17 years, he has become very familiar
with the province of Saskatchewan. (He recalls doing a concert tour and
performing in 25 shows in 28 days).
He began his professional career at the age of twelve in Inverness County, Nova
Scotia, and seasoned his performing skills at local coffee houses for nine years
and at several universities in the Maritimes and Onawa.
Drawing on a rich heritage of Cape Breton fiddling, bagpipes and folk tradition
dating back several hundred years, John Allan continues to captivate audiences
with his singing, charm and easy wit. He has taught, written, directed,
produced, acted, choreographed and preached the gospel of Cape Breton music the
world over. Sharing the stage with some of his favourite people over the years
has included Anne Murray, Kris Kristofferson, Roger Whittaker and The Clancy
Brothers.
After taking a career detour, as a teacher in London, Ontario, John Allan has
been living in Markham with his wife Angela and son Stuart who is a performer in
his own right.
Despite his other commitments, John Allan says he will always have time for
Telemiracle. He is an entertainer, second to none.
