Horses once powered the entire way of life. Horsemanship skills were admired but in the early days not the "wild west" rodeo type we imagine today but the refined show horse skills brought from Britain. The picture below is described as the "9th Gymkana - 1915" The photo is unusual in showing people, especially the children, in very relaxed and natural postures. Most photos in the early days showed people standing rigidly squinting into the camera.
In the rear is Lloydminster's first high school, built at the height of the boom times in 1912, it survived until 1948.
